Nate Surman tosses no-hitter as NA completes sweep of Central Catholic

North Allegheny returned to the No Offseason Sports Complex in Russellton, PA looking to complete the sweep of the Central Catholic Vikings. The Tigers did so in dominating with the offense posting 11 runs and Nate Surman pitched the 13th no-hitter in school history.

 

NA got right to work in the top of the first inning when Jake Frtiz singled, got to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on another wild pitch. JJ Mancuso walked and scored on Mason Dratfinsky’s double. Ryan Evanish walked, stole second and Dratfinsky and Evanish both scored on a Viking error making the score 4-0 going into the bottom of the first.

 

The next big inning for North Allegheny came in the top of the third when Nate Fritz led it off with a double, Christian Simons scored him on single, Dratfinsky walked, and Dominic Williamson scored Simons on a single making it 6-0. Alex Lopez was hit by a pitch, Surman singled home Dratfinsky and Jake Fritz had a two-RBI double, giving the Tigers a 10-0 lead.

 

NA would add one more run in the top of the fourth as Simons singled, Dratfinsky was hit by a pitch and Williamson singled, scoring Simons.

 

Jake Frtiz followed up his 4-for-5 game last night going 3-for-4 today with two RBIs. Simons, Williamson and Surman all had two hits. Williamson and Surman drove in two each.

 

Surman went the distance striking out six batters.

 

North Allegheny improves to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the section. Central Catholic falls to 6-7 overall and 5-4 in section play. The Tigers return to action on Monday when they begin a series with Seneca Valley. Game one will be at home at 7 p.m. This game will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
